You don’t need to know all the tiny details- but you might find it an interesting read!
On June 15th, an important treaty is due to be signed aboard the UCS Warspite between the human factions of the Adamas Belt, 22 light years from Earth. We hope these factions will eventually join the rest of humanity under the UCTCN.
However, some factions oppose peace. These pirates will do anything to disrupt the treaty signing. It is the duty of the UCN, specifically the Warspite task group, to ensure the treaty is signed.
To this end, a significant number of UCN officers will join the Warspite task group to protect the diplomats and faction leaders, and neutralize pirate threats.
We need your commitment to ensure a stable future for humanity.
Join one of the six watches to help us succeed.
Mission Brief
17:00 Arrival In three waves, each watch will fly a training mission where they will learn how to use the ships and face some basic tactical challenges.
Whilst not in training, the other watches will be briefed on the diplomats they need to protect, along with the pirate groups who are threatening to disrupt the treaty signing.
20:30 The UCTCN president is due to arrive on the UCS Warspite through the teleporter.
21:00 In three waves, each watch will fly their second mission after being given the opportunity to make a tactical plan. The aim of these missions is to convey the diplomats/leaders of each faction back to the Warspite for the treaty signing. This may involve dealing decisively with the various pirate threats.
00:00 Treaty Signing. Now is the time for all diplomats and leaders to make their decisions as to whether they are signing the treaty with the UCTCN President.
We hope this will be cause for celebration and merriment!

President Adebayo has been in office less than a year – he has had a rocky first year in office after his predecessor died unexpectedly, leaving him in charge. Overall he has coped well, but a little gaffe-prone. This is an election year, and President Adebayo is neck-and-neck with his challenger – the outcome of the election is not at all certain.
Stamping out piracy in the Adamas belt is a high priority for the UCTCN, and Cpt. Taylor was appointed as leader of the Warspite Task Group with the primary aim of achieving this, as they had an excellent record against pirates in the Sol system.
UCN Intelligence is concerned that the Gliese Syndicate is trying to play different sides against each other, and won’t stand with the other factions against piracy. They would much prefer to deal with a Syndicate leader who is committed to offering no safe harbour to pirates.
UCN Intelligence is also very keen to find out more about Terra Nova. If it is indeed a habitable planet or moon then this would be the first discovery of an exoplanet that was actually habitable by humans, and it would make it even more desirable to bring Terra Nova into the UCTCN.
-
The Terra Novans struggle to defend themselves against the various predatory factions of the Adamas belt, and secrecy is their main way of doing this. They will never allow anyone outside their faction to know what or where Terra Nova is. There are rumours that it is a habitable planet or moon with a breathable atmosphere, which would explain how the Terra Novan’s manage to grow enough food to export to the rest of the factions of the Adamas belt.
The Terra Novan’s are currently kept safe with assistance from the Gliese Syndicate who they do not trust or like. They would prefer the protection of the UCN, but are not willing to share the secret of their home to get it. Terra Novans are a peace-loving people with a gentle, paganistic religion. They lack technological skills and many of them have a superstitious approach to technology. Because of the need for secrecy surrounding their home, they can struggle to accommodate members who express a desire to leave their community.
-
The IMC initially distrusted the UCTCN, but the actions of UCN officers in the Adamas belt have won them over. They are the most enthusiastic about the treaty as it stands at the moment, and are very willing to sign it, but may not be willing to adjust it to take into account the concerns of the other factions.
They currently rely on the protection of the Gliese Syndicate against the many pirates looking to raid their mines and bases, but would much prefer the protection of the UCN instead. They are very close to being ready to join the UCTCN, but some die-hards on their general committee are still unwilling to do this.
-
They operate out of an old military space station that they have turned into a space-borne nightclub and casino called Xanadu. They have the largest military force in the Adamas Belt – a private military company called “The Watchmen”, whose services can be rented out to the highest bidder. The Syndicate present themselves as a group of businessmen who provide essential services to the other factions of the Adamas Belt – however UCN intelligence believes they are little more than mobsters running an elaborate protection racket, as the factions rely on them for defense against marauding pirates, but the Syndicate also offer those same pirates safe harbour at Xanadu. The Syndicate’s thirst for power and influence is all-consuming.
-
They will be looking for any juicy stories that they can take back to Earth with them. They cannot broadcast live – any story they find has to be taken back through the teleporter. UCN officers should be on their best behaviour and be very careful when talking to the press. They should do nothing to bring the UCN into disrepute.
Glossary of Terms
The history page of the BC website has some useful background information that will be relevant to this event.
The Exodus (Exodus Fleets) Humanity departed earth in 2099 heading for a new planet, as Earth was considered to be environmentally doomed. They arrived in the vicinity of Gliese 667c in 2123, settling in the Adamas belt, an asteroid belt in the Gliese 667c system, when it was discovered that the planet they had hoped to colonise was uninhabitable.
The Exodus Factions These were the five human factions that left earth and settled around the Adamas Belt: The Commonwealth, the European Federation, the Shanghai Pact, JASA and the Jump Corporation.
Ark Ship These were enormous vessels constructed to bring hundreds of thousands of people from Earth into space in Cryosleep. They were designed to travel from earth to a potentially habitable planet in the Gliese 667c system and carry everything with them necessary to restart civilization on another world, including resources, flora and fauna, and mobile factories pre-programmed with template designs for all manner of useful equipment.
The Adamas Belt An asteroid belt in the Gliese 667c system where the exodus fleets settled for a time in the 2130s. It is also where Gravium was first discovered.
The First Treaty of the Adamas Belt (2135) This was the treaty that united the Exodus factions following the war between them in the Adamas Belt, and paved the way for the return to Earth and the ultimate unification of humanity under the banner of the UCTCN
The Return to Earth (2139) The factions who united under the first treaty of the Adamas Belt returned to Earth together with the newly discovered power source of Gravium, with the intent of fixing Earth’s climate and making the planet livable again. They later went on to form the UCTCN.
Gravium A super-heavy element used to generate huge amounts of energy when utilised inside a Gravium Oscillator. Discovering how to use Gravium to produce energy allowed humanity to fix Earth’s climate, and powers wondrous new technologies such as the Teleporter.
UCTCN United Confederation of Terran and Circumsolar Nations – the unified political body that represents all of humanity.
UCN United Confederation Navy – the military arm of the UCTCN and the uniform worn by all participants marks them out as officers in this navy.
UCS Warspite The lead vessel of the Warspite Task Group – a large and powerful vessel that is over 80 years old. The Teleporter links the UCN Base on Earth directly with the UCS Warspite. The Warspite Bar (The Mess) is our Bar and the location of the Treaty Signing and all the diplomatic wrangling.
UCS Havock One of the two ships where the missions are run
UCS Takanami The other ship where missions are run
The Warspite Task Group – a small fleet of UCN ships sent to return to the Adamas belt in 2180 (the current year). This is the fleet that we are all a part of. The task group is the UCN and UCTCN presence in the Adamas Belt.
The Factions of the Adamas Belt Various human communities that have survived in the Adamas Belt since the bulk of humanity returned to Earth in 2139. Aside from various flavours of pirate, these communities are the IMC, The Gliese Syndicate and Terra Nova.
